Personal Assessment The completion of the self-assessment tool I believe would be very beneficial to every future advanced nurse practitioner. Because it helps identify the weaknesses, strength, professional objectives and goals. For advance nurse practitioner (APN) such as Family Nurse Practitioner performing self-assessment tool will be helpful in discovering new area of interest. Self- assessment tool will also give the APN the true understanding of themselves which will be helpful in the delivery of advanced patient care (Brassard, 2014). Using Benner’s Self-Assessment tool, I found that I am at the advanced beginner stage. According to Davis and Maisano (2016), in Benner’s Novice to Expert model, practitioners in the advance beginner stage have enough clinical knowledge but requires assistance or support from preceptor or mentors who are experts and provides feedback constructively. Everyone else have their own unique weaknesses but luckily in nursing, weakness can be used to build strength that will help provide highest level of patient care. As a future Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), I have to keep in mind that as I start practicing as FNP I will continue my journey from being a novice FNP to an expert FNP (Davis & Maisano, 2016).

APN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 4 Professional goals are crucial for APN professional development. There are two types of professional goals including long term and short-term goals. My short-term goal as FNP is to work as internal medicine NP once I pass my licensure exam and my long-term goal is to become an expert in the clinical setting so that I will be able to precept and teach students. To be successful in meeting my goals, it is important to continue to reassess and evaluate my goals as I continue to move forward in my APN career (Davis & Maisano, 2016). Having professional objectives are very important, because it will be helpful in navigating and meeting professional goals. Everyone who seeks employment and are currently employed have their own goals and objectives. My objective to find clinical site where I could get the most and best experience in contrast to my practice of interest. Here in Ohio we are very saturated with NP’s, so it is very important for me to make the best strategy to network and stands out. It is important for NP student like me to impress and work hard in the clinical site to show the host agency my best potential as their employee (Brassard, 2014). Networking and Marketing Strategies Marketing and networking strategy are one important aspect to understand in the development of professional development plan. Once I completed NP school and becomes family nurse practitioner board certified. It is important to understand that networking and marketing strategies must be used in order to be successful in applying for a job. Networking starts during initiation of finding clinical preceptor and clinical site while in school starts from coworker, employer and then branch out. there are large number of professional organizations that could be used in networking and often times advertise employment opportunities.
