Data Analysis: Mean and Standard DeviationThe mean and standard deviation are the statistics for this data set. The mean tells the average for the data set. The standard deviation tells how far from the average the rest of the numbers are likely to be.Group 1: AntiquilGroup 2: Placebo403735352734182430292814112323253032133716301730262922221923173129281020Mean: 22.83333333Mean:27.94444444Stand. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS REPORT6Data Analysis: Histogram .Data Analysis: Shape The result of the distribution shape shows the results of the medication and the placebo are too close, to prove the claim, that Antiquil is effective in decreasing withdrawal and craving symptoms, with little to no side effects, for individuals recovering from alcoholHypothesis: Whether One Mean is Higher The mean for one group was higher. By using excel and creating the histogram and graph for the data set, the results of the calculations showed that the mean of group 2 (placebo) was higher than the mean of group 1 (Antiquil). Hypothesis: Null Hypothesis and Alternative Hypothesis Null Hypothesis– Results did not differ between the two study groups, Antiquil, and
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS REPORT7placebo. Neither showed signs of decreasing the withdrawal and craving symptoms, with little tono side effects, for individuals recovering from alcohol.. H0: π ≤ 20Alternative Hypothesis– The study group receiving Antiquil showed signs of positive changes in withdrawal and craving symptoms. The study group receiving the placebo did not show signs of change in withdrawal and craving symptoms. Ha: π > 20 This hypothesis means that the study is trying to prove that Antiquil is effective in decreasing the withdrawal and craving symptoms, with little to no side effects, for individuals recovering from alcohol. The OCDS will determine that the hypothesis is correct if the results for the Antiquil group show effectiveness when comparing the numbers for both groups. However, it can also prove that it does not work. The null hypothesis would indicate a placebo effect. The OCDS will prove that Antiquil will not be effective when comparing numbers for both groups. Results: Valid Scenario 4 is a study that has a data set of 36 individuals recovering from alcohol addiction. The individuals were split into two groups of 18, in which one group received Antiquil, and the other group received a placebo. The drug Antiquil is used to suppress the cravings for alcohol. Both groups were tested, after three weeks, for signs of withdrawal and craving symptoms, with little to no side effects using the Obsessive-Compulsive Drinking Scale (OCDS). During post-treatment, the OCDS was used to measure the participants' ruminations about alcohol during non-drinking periods, using a score range of 0-40. The higher the score means higher levels of rumination based on the 0-40 score range, so to prove that Antiquil is
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS REPORT8useful for participants, the score should be less than 20. All individual scores were compared forboth groups of participants, and this means the null hypothesis is the hypothesis for the data set, and the means of the study groups are 22.83 (Antiquil) and 27.94 (Placebo). Therefore, the alternative hypothesis is more than 20.
