helps a company in being more prepared towards the risks they face and being able toincorporate the reliable intelligence into their risk management process.Operational RisksOperational risk is the possibility of loss to a business due to its inadequate or failedprocedures, policies or systems [ CITATION Bia \l 1033 ]. Operational risk results frombreakdowns in procedures, peoples and systems[ CITATION Wil18 \l 1033 ]. This can be due tohuman error, system failures, fraud, or any internal or external event which disrupts the normalbusiness processes [ CITATION Bia \l 1033 ].No system and its processes are impenetrable. Nothing is perfect. If someone can createit, then someone else can be able to find flaws in it and can either improve it or disrupt it byhacking into it. Software and hardware are at risk and these are used by businesses as well asbought from vendors to protect a business against cyber-threats. Software and hardware in theirdevelopmental phase, building phase, installing phase can realistically have malicious softwareintroduced into them. This can easily introduce risks in the company which might have hadthings working perfectly before using that malicious or faulty software or hardware. These cannegatively affect a company’s day to day operations. Therefore, it is crucial that cybersecurityproducts are bought from reliable vendors. However, no matter how reliable the vendor is thereis a chance that even they are not aware of a fault or weakness in their product and that risk canbe easily transferred to buyers when they buy their products. One factor is the human factor. Employees of the suppliers can make a mistake or theycan even be malicious by introducing a code in a software which steals data from the customersor include a device in the hardware which send information on a regular basis to someone else.
9RISK MANAGEMENT STRATEGY FOR AMAZONSuppliers can also have outdated information or intelligence. This is not essentiallygiving bad info but rather old or unreliable info to the buyer which the buyer then uses to makedecisions. Now this could end up in wasting the buyers time or them actually making a bad anddevastating decision. There is a famous saying “garbage in, garbage out”. It is not just a sayingbut also a computer science and mathematics concept which says that if the input is unreliablethen the output produced using that input will be useless and will not achieve its purpose[ CITATION Mar08 \l 1033 ]. Managers need information and not just a huge chunk of data tomake decisions but rather they need reliable, timely information to make decisions to strategizeand to protect their company from the ever-evolving cyber threats.Natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunami, monsoons can also cause operationalrisks. One of the most famous examples of a natural disaster causing an enormous risk was theFukushima nuclear disaster in Japan in 2011 when an earthquake and tsunami caused explosionsin the nuclear plant which then caused radiation leaking [ CITATION Mui11 \l 1033 ].
