colonists did not believe they were being treated fairly by the English crown. This doubt, that the colonists were no longer attached to England, lead to the certainty that they were independent. This certainty ran wild throughout the colonies. Colonists were certain they could become independent, demonstrated by multiple defiances to the crown such as The Boston Massacre, the Tea act and the signing of the Decleration of Independance and Articles of Confederation. With the doubt of the colonists never being represented equally by England, a certainty drove the colonists to independence for themselves. Doubt and certainty can not be truly applicable without each other. Doubt is the base of all and any lasting certainty; if not, this ‘certainty’ is just a mixture of ignorance and intolerance.
