So I recommend that you practice for this by reserving a few homework problems to do under a simulated test situation. That is, prepare a “test” for yourself of problems that you haven’t seen before that you work within a limited amount of time. This will be good practice for the exams. I do not make “sample exams” available. Although I have in the past, I found that students get a false sense of security from these samples….they think the real exam will look a lot like the sample. In reality, this is not the case. The same applies to those of you who have copies of my old exams. When I write a new exam, I try to make it different from past exams. For this reasons, sample exams and old exams tend to not be representative of the real thing. Organic chemistry is cumulative and therefore, so will be the exams. The exams will cover all the material discussed up to and including the lecture prior to the exam date with a focus on previously untested material. The final exam will be comprehensive with a weighting toward previously untested material. For all exams, you must present a picture ID to take the exam. No calculators or cell phones will be allowed during exams. No crib sheets or notes will be allowed. No hats, hoods, etc. may be worn during the exam. You will be required to place all your belongings (other than a writing instrument and picture ID) at the front of the room prior to the exam. If you need to leave the room during the exam, you will be asked to remove all items from your pockets before exiting. All exams should be written in INK. If you choose to use pencil, NO re-grades will be considered. If you wish to ask for a re-grade you must follow the directions listed on the “Exam Regrade Policy” document that is posted on the web site. All exam grades will be considered final one week after the return of the exams to the students (i.e., no re-grades after this time). Please consult the policy document for complete details. When you are finished with an exam, you will be required to personally hand your exam to the TA stationed at the exit prior to leaving. Once you have left the room, you will not be permitted to re-enter. All students are encouraged to review the university's policy on academic dishonesty. All incidents of suspected academic dishonesty will be taken seriously and reported to the

appropriate dean according to university guidelines. I strongly recommend that you do not consider cheating as I do not appreciate dealing with such situations. Grading: The course grade will be based on total points earned from performance on two midterm exams and one final exam. The course will be graded on a “hybrid” grading system. That is, your letter grade will be assigned based on a curve (average = “C”). However, if you obtain 800 points or more in the course (out of 1000 total), you will be guaranteed a grade of “A”, regardless of the curve. This will allow for the possibility that all students
