the influences that affect happiness levels, and what people were doing and thinking about at the moment when they reported feeling happy or unhappy. The study sought to uncover what things caused people to feel happy or unhappy. They also wanted to see the correlation between mind-wandering and happiness levels and to determine whether it is unhappiness that leads to mind-wandering or if it is mind-wandering that leads to unhappiness. For his study, Dr. Killingsworth had participates report, via their phone, how they were feeling at that moment and what they were doing and thinking about at the exact moment that they were reporting. This study consisted of over 15,000 people who gave a total of over 650,000 real-time reports. Participates covered a wide range of ages, income, education, occupation, and marital status. The results suggest that it is the practice of mind-wandering that causes people to feel unhappy and that by being “present in the moment”, or focusing on what one is currently doing, it makes less likely for thoughts to wander to something negative, and for the individual to feel happier than if they were mind-wandering. This information could lead to further research on why exactly certain situations cause an individual to think about negative things rather than positive things.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
