8. Describe the makeup of blood and relate it to other body systems. 9. Relating form to function, explain why the left ventricle is thicker than any other chamber of the heart. (Lab) o Because it has to pump the blood the furthest (throughout the entire body). 10. Explain why the aorta is a thicker walled blood vessel than the vena cava. (Lab) 1. Describe the organs of the respiratory system, relating form to function. 2. Relate smoking to respiratory illnesses. Cigarettes have 4000 different chemicals; smoking decreases cilia’s ability to function so the lungs cannot be cleaned – causes “smoker’s cough” 3. Relate respiration to the circulatory system. Respiration takes CO2 out of the circulatory system and releases it to the environment and it takes in O2, which it replenishes the circulatory system with

4. Relate respiration (gas exchange) to cellular respiration and energy production. Cellular respiration requires O2, which is obtained through respiration Energy is produced in the mitochondria, which uses the products of cellular respiration, which requires respiratory oxygen to take place 5. Relate respiration to the nervous system. CNS – brain – controls autonomic breathing: o Brainstem – pons & medulla oblongata o Increased CO2, decreased pH signals brain o Brain signals diaphragm CNS requires oxygen obtained through respiration to operate Excretory System (Urinary System)--waste disposal and water/salt balance

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
