transparency, we have a yearly town hall meeting and an open door policy. I truly believe they value associate input.” Hours • “While work hours can be high on occasion, I’ve always felt the overall distribution of the hours is manageable for a BigLaw lifestyle. The lax face-time requirements at Irell make a huge difference to my lifestyle in busier months.” • “The hours honestly are not bad. That is because 2000 hours actually means 2000 hours; partners are not permitted to ask associates to ‘write off’ any of their own time, and the firm’s clients actually pay their bills.” • “I’m happy with the amount of hours I work. I expected to have a lot of work when I signed up to work at a big law firm, but I’ve found the work manageable. A big reason for that is the lack of a face-time requirement. Although some partners prefer if you’re in the office, many people take advantage of slower periods to work from home, coffee shops, or even head out of town.” • “There’s no denying that you work a lot of hours at Irell. The workload ranges from pleasantly busy to crushing; it’s extremely rare that you find yourself without work. Face-time is a non-issue. If you wake up one morning and decide that getting dressed is too much work, nobody will bat an eye if you work from home that day (or multiple days, for that matter). All that matters is that you get your work done on time and do a good job.” Compensation • “It’s nice that bonuses are binary (either you get one if you hit your hours, or you don’t), instead of tiered (more bonus for more hours), because it encourages everyone to work a decent amount, but there’s no real incentive to overwork and go crazy killing yourself. Even first years who just started get a small pro-rated bonus.” • “Our salary is top of the market and our bonuses are above- market. I am very pleased.” • “It’s hard to complain about the generous levels of compensation at Irell, which consistently beats compensation levels at most of the top law firms in the country. As the market has improved, the degree by which Irell beats the market has dialed back somewhat, and that has proven to be difficult to accept for a portion of associates.” • “Irell pays market salary and above-market bonuses to associates that meet the 2000 billable hours requirement, which includes pro bono and certain other ‘high quality’ non-billable hours.” Quality of Work • “The amount of early responsibility that Irell gives young associates is shocking. If there’s a deposition to take or a hearing to attend, nobody thinks about seniority when assigning coverage. If you prove that you’re competent, you’ll be doing work in the first six months that most attorneys wouldn’t do until their third or fourth year.” • “I do incredibly substantive work, even as a junior associate.” • “Most of the work I have done during my tenure as an associate at Irell has consistently been several years beyond that of my peers at other top tier firms. It is not at all

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
