Place the 500-mL beaker on a hot plate and using a thermometer monitor the temperature until it reaches 40 ° C. 4. Place the 100-mL beaker into the 500-mL beaker and monitor the temperature until it reaches approximately 40 ° C. 5. Start the timer and using a pH meter record the pH at 10 second intervals for a total of 2 minutes 6. Repeat steps 1-7 two more times 7. Repeat steps 1-6 with temperatures of 45 ° C, 50 ° C, 55 ° C, 60 ° C. 2.3 Safety, Environment and Ethical Concerns For this experiment, it is important to be wearing eye safely goggles at all times and use tongs when moving beakers/flasks on to and off of the hot plate. At higher temperatures, it is also very important to proceed with caution around the hot plates so to not burn one’s self. This experiment requires the use of orange juice; thus, it is important to not ingest any materials from the lab as they may be contaminated and could cause disease. 3 Evaluation/Data Collection and Processing To process the data first graph the collected data (pH of orange juice vs. time), for all trials (create 15 graphs). Once done, determine a suitable time frame to calculate the slope of all 15 graphs using the average rate of reaction. Take the average slope form the technical replicates (per temperature), and plot the average rate of reaction of oxidation as a function of temperature as a scatter plot.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
