Organizational StrategyHaving a visual form of organizational strategy improves the overall functioning of the facility. Every member of the organization can see what areas have experienced improvement and what areas need improvement. This creates a team understanding of the overall strategy and opens up dialog regarding the path that the organization is taking to reach these goals. When open and honest dialog is present the department as well as departmental leaders can ensure that the processes are in line to meet the overall goals. Balanced PerformanceBalanced performance means that the department has multiple measures in place to makeimprovements in more than one area. This allows for not only an increase in the quality and safety of patient care, but all incorporates and promotes staff involvement and engagement. While concentrating in multiple areas, the overall goals of the organization can be met. One goalis dependent on another. If staff members are not engaged or involved in the process then patientcare will suffer. Staff members who are engaged and feel that their efforts are worthwhile and are acknowledged will make a positive effort to ensure that all aspects of their job and work functions are in line with the goals of the facility. ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT 10Nursing is a continuously changing and growing profession. The ways of the past where leaders would direct their subordinates and tell them exactly what to do is no longer effective. Staff members are more empowered and have less dedication to the employers. As a result current trends in leadership practices and shared governance are emerging. These areas will be discussed in more detail in the following sections. Leadership PracticesToday’s society is an ever changing environment of employees who exhibit less dedication to their employers than previous generations. While the old way of authoritative leadership was effective in the past, it is no longer useful or accepted. Employees who do not feel valued or feel that they have a voice in the practices of the organization will quickly leave and look for new employment. Leaders must now lead, instead of manage and direct, as a result new leadership practices have emerged. These include complexity leader, quantum leadership and transformational leaders. These leadership styles all center around enabling the employee to be an active participant instead of simply directing the employee to complete an assignment.
