Processing Hardware Requirement for HD DVD and Blu RayIntel has introduced a new mobile platform of Santa Rosa to support both HD DVD and Blu Rayplayback (Webmestre, L. (2005). Along with this, Toshiba is using HD DVD in all its laptops.Having an edge in technology & R&D facilities are not sufficient enough to survive in themarket for long-run, particularly, when the competitor also holds the same technologicalcompetence in the industry. In this case of HD DVD and Blu-ray, the main reason of HD DVDlost over to Blu-ray was lacking of effective relationship management and marketing strategieswhich were effectively used by Sony, the manufacturer of Blu-ray. But retailers may force theHD DVD camp’s hand: They’re unlikely to keep devoting premium shelf space to a dyingformat, and at this point, the odds are not in HD DVD’s favor (Fritz and Garrett 2008). As aresult, Blu-ray completely took over the HD DVD format.
