Then we shall be able to put the enemy to flight by the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God." [ (2001). Twenty-First Century Biblical Commentary Series: Revelation (p. ix). WORDsearch. Retrieved from .]The book of Revelation is the greatest book of apocalypticliterature ever written. It captivates our attention, stirs our imagination, and points us to our glorious future destiny. In this singular book of New Testament prophecy, the curtain is removed and the future is revealed for all tosee. In a series of seven visions and numerous symbolic word pictures, the whole climax of human history is foretold in lucid detail. The term revelation means to "unveil" or "uncover" that which was previously hidden. It translates the Greek termapokalupsis. Thus, the book is often known as the Apocalypse. It is the last book of the Bible and describes the final consummation of all things. [ (2001).
Definitionofeschatology. pluraleschatologies. 1 : a branch of theology concerned with the final events in the history of the world or of humankind. Why should the question of date and authorship be important to the church? The question of date and authorship of the book of Danielshould be important to the church because they ultimately validate or disqualify Daniel’s entire message as either prophetic or pseudo-prophetic. This was the foundational theory of the Maccabean thesis. As far as the historical content of the book of Daniel is concerned, it was not just what was said that would question its validity but rather what was not mentioned that promoted speculation; however, Miller explains, “that the historical inaccuracies have no bearing on the theologicalvalue of the book.” Based on several evidentiary factors such as language, writing style, theology, the nature of Daniel’s prophesy, and most importantly the testimony ofJesus Christ, some scholars believe Daniel was written in the second century B.C. while a majority hold true to its sixth century composition. To suggest that the book of Daniel is unauthentic is to say that Jesus was inaccurate when he referenced Daniel and Daniel’s writings. For Jesus to be inaccurate would result in us questioning all that He was and all that He did. With each accusation of error or fallacy theorized, scholars have countered the critics with strong supporting evidence or the critics own lack of proof to support their position. Dr. Ed Hindson sums up the importance for the church to question the date and authorship of Daniel perfectly when he states in the presentation: Authorship Issues for Daniel, “This has
to do with the credibility of Christ himself, the credibility of Christianity and the credibility of the message of the gospel.”
