Even Dame Bille Miller of Barbados as well is a 25 year breast cancer survivor. - With all these prominent cases, Mr. Speaker, the awareness has been aided - and what cancer had meant for bad, was turned into something good. -One person dies from a form of cancer each week on the island of Barbados, and with breast cancer being the leading causes, doctors are calling for more women to come forward for screening. -The media also plays a role in spreading this information. The media is a major influencer in society and helps to mold a society’s way of thinking by use of commentary and editorials, such as those seen and read on “Barbados Today” and Caribbean News Service’s website and other Caribbean Networks. -an emerging branch of media has been social media, and the free and fast-paced method of spreading vital information has been effective in organizing breast cancer awareness walks, and helping to spread awareness.
