It is true that abortions performed in the modern world are in general physically safer than say, fifty years ago. However, some people claim that abortions are safer than natural birth. In contrast to this, a study in Finland in 1997 showed that in the year following the procedure, the risk of disk is four times greater for the mother then if she had chosen to go through with the pregnancy (Lane, Brenda).
