Last, a process is a running instance of a program. When an application or service starts, the program creates a process. Software Installation Considerations 1:12-2:32 Let's review the process for installing a desktop application on Windows. The first thing you need to do is to verify that the application is compatible with the version of Windows you are using. This is usually available on the software vendor's website and the software documentation or within the readme.txt file that usually comes with most desktop applications. For example, you might find an application requires that you have a specific Windows service packinstalled before it can be installed. If the installer file for a desktop application was downloaded from a website, run a malware scan on itto make sure that it is free from viruses before proceeding. The next task is to set a restore point before starting the installation. The easiest and cleanest way to recover from a failed application installation is to first capture a restore point. If something happens during the installation process and you can't get the system working the way it was, you can go into system protection and revert to the restore point that was set prior to starting the installation.

After the restore point has been created, then run the install. And this is typically done using an installer file, which will usually launch an installation wizard. If you downloaded the installer from the internet, it may be delivered as a compressed file. If this is the case, you must unzip the archive firstand then run the installer that was extracted. View Installed Applications 2:33-2:53 After installing the desktop application, it can be viewed using programs and features in control panel. For each installed application, the following information is displayed. The name of the application, the application's publisher, when the application was installed, the application's installed size and the application's version number. Change Installed Applications 2:54-3:20 You can also manage the applications that have been installed on the system in programs and features. For example, you can change an installed application. This option allows you to reconfigurean installed application. To do this, select the application and click change. Windows will launch the application's installer again, allowing you to go through the installation process and make whatever change is necessary to the application's configuration. Repair Installed Applications 3:21-4:02 Some applications also provide a repair option in programs and features. From time to time, you may run into a situation where an application crashes frequently, behaves erratically or freezes up completely. If this happens, it's possible that one or more of the application's files have been corrupted in some way. If the application provides a repair option, well not all of them do, and you select it, then it will examine the application's files and replace any that are missing or corruptedusing the original files from the installer.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
