place, the introduction of “Reasonable Adjustment” was created. This ensues that healthcare service providers must take reasonable steps to eliminate obstacles to accessing appropriate services. I also found a source, however based in the USA, called “Bridging Communication Gaps with the Deaf” by Gregory K. Shuler, et al. In this source, the problems that cause the miscommunication between medical professionals and deaf patients is heavily detailed. Because the reasons are explicitly stated, charts and tables including probable solutions to combat these said problems are included throughout the paper. Just like the last source, this paper includes American legislation created to counter the problem. In America, there is the American Disability Act (ADA) which mandates that hospitals should have reasonable resources to improve communication with these deaf patients. Another source I have found is called “The Health of Deaf People: Communication Breakdown” published by The Lancet, a famously respected medical journal. In this editorial that is also based in the UK, it states that British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters are very scarce, signaling a major problem for UK hospitals. This source differs from the last two sources because it introduces the idea that the UK government and healthcare providers do not have adequate communication with one another themselves, thus preventing a legislative mandate from taking place. The sources I have collected thus far are seen as credible as they have all been conducted

Not only do they all provide thorough background information, but they also include data, statistics, and first person anecdotes. Some of the sources even include solutions that are more effective and feasible for hospitals and healthcare providers. One of the problems I have run into is that there is an uneven ratio of published research in the USA in comparison to the UK. The UK has done more research within this problem, meaning that the USA research may be less represented in my research. I still need to find more research that is more positive about how effective the proposed and incorporated solutions have been thus far. A concern of mine, as stated before, is that USA research may be less included than UK research. My only worry is finding more

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
