Developmental differences should also be considered to observe patients. Physical and psychological presence of patients could be changed as their age. Nurses should pay attention to their difference and use different communication and treatment skills to help them. For young age patients, nurses could guide them to compliant treatment. However, nurses should pay more attention to mitigate the anxiety that arises from pain when assessing an old patient (William et al., 2018). Question 3: Situation: When I was in China, I lived with my grandma and cared for her for a long time. My grandma was 79 years old and the situation of her lungs was not good. Therefore, I should know how to use a digital blood pressure monitor, handhold pulse oximeter and household oxygen generator to help her. Task: I observed my grandma’s psychological presence and used digital blood pressure monitor and handhold pulse oximeter to monitor her health condition in every morning. When the value of SpO2 was slightly lower than the normal range, I should use household oxygen generator to help her. Action I searched for the normal range of blood pressure and SpO2. The normal health parameter of blood pressure of current diagnostic threshold of an elder adult is 140/90mmHg (Norris et al., 2015, p2139). Normal SpO2 values should be between 95 and 100%. When I noticed she can’t breathe smoothly, I tested her SpO2. If the SpO2 of her was lower than 94%, she should be supplied oxygen (Myatt, 2017, p42) and I used household oxygen generator to make her feel better. Results: I observed my grandma’s psychological presence and checked the value of her blood pressure and SpO2 carefully in every morning. My grandma’s blood pressure was almost normal but the value of SpO2 was always abnormal. When she had hard breath or cough frequently, I used handhold pulse oximeter to test her SpO2 and considered she should use an oxygen generator or not. After I did like that, I will ask her did she feel better and she said yes almost every time. I realized that do the general survey is essential when we assess the patients, it could be helpful to further treatment.
