Researchers are known to study a societies values and beliefs to gain an understanding of the people within. 6. Communication context and communication traditions help us break down and better understand the many theories that lie within the field itself. Traditions reveal that beliefs and theoretical development do not just occur naturally. (West & Turner, 2014, p. 28) Traditions are able to exist throughout different contexts. For example, someone hears a voice inside their head that the person they are conversing with seems to be upset because they are crying. In this scenario, there is both intrapersonal communication (internal dialogue) and semiotic tradition (the act of crying) taking place. 7. When I think of my future work in the communication field, I believe that interpersonal communication and organizational communication will benefit me most. It is really important to have good social skills and be able to effectively communicate with others. I feel that interpersonal communication will allow me to work well with coworkers. Alexander 5 organized within the workplace as well as future public relation campaigns. Public communication will also help me in expanding my audience for future campaigns. I feel that the socio-psychological tradition will allow me to analyze my potential audience’s habits so that I can prepare campaigns targeted to their specific psychological attitudes and beliefs.
