The rise of scholarly importance in mindfulness has produced multiple lines of analysis. A substantial amount of work in this area emphasise linkages among mindfulness and psychological as well as physical well-being. For instance, McLean’s (2017) research identifies that mindfulness is positively related to strength, liveliness, and interpersonal relationship quality. In the study of Ruffault et al. (2016), it has been demonstrated that mindfulness has a moderate relationship with the intrinsic motivation, owing to the fact that physical activity has an effect on it as well. The article cites that when an individual is not physically active, it can lead to the fourth leading risk factor of mortality in the world. In such a situation, it becomes important that to promote physical activity, there is a need for having cognitive-behavioural principles of behaviour change (Ruffault et al., 2016). The change is carried out through the use of intrinsic motivation and dispositional mindfulness. It is believed that mindfulness and health behaviours are linked in the sense that mindfulness is seen to be more effective when the individual practices
15 healthy habits of getting enough sleep, eating well and also exercising. These aspects are considered to be vital to ensure that mindfulness worked for individuals, in comparison to people who were less mindful individuals. In the area of behavioural change motivation, the focus is put on Self-Determination Theory (SDT). This particular theory focuses on the notion that human behaviours are autonomous or self-determined (Ruffault et al., 2016). It is important that the individual change their behaviour regularly to meet human psychological needs. There are two forms of motivation that occurs here which are intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is the type of motivation that one change for enjoyment or pleasure (Ruffault et al., 2016). Mindfulness and intrinsic motivation can work together if the individual is able to find enjoyment or pleasure in his intrinsic motivation which would cause him to have positive mindfulness. On the contrary, mindfulness is negatively connected to despair, anxiety, and stress. Hence, mindfulness influences an individual to an extent where the memories last for long with positive impact. Traditionally, scholars have argued that people tend to experience events more objectively due to mindfulness. Kowalski (2017) considers that an even approach towards mindfulness enables an individual to relate their thoughts, reactions, and emotions with the present moment more effectively. According to Gunasekara (2019), the effects of mindfulness are also credible to examine task performance in a workplace setting. Gunasekara (2019) also demonstrated that multiple environments have experienced mindfulness and results of working in various settings like corporate, education, healthcare has positive outcomes.
