These classes are an invaluable tool in teaching new leaders about ways to engage employees. I
have taken those guiding principles and put them to use daily. This was shown to be effective

through the last survey, where our department had the highest engagement score in the entire
health system.
E. Improving Employee Engagement
The goal of this measure is to improve employee engagement by identifying nursing
experts that can be utilized for collaborative care for patients. Specifically, with a goal of
deceasing pressure injuries, a meeting with Nurse Leaders and practice forums will help identify
wound care nurses as well as skin care experts across the system. Once they have been identified,
nurse leaders need to ensure frontline clinical staff has access to these experts by identifying
methods and innovations for immediate access for the frontline personnel. This will be explored
by presenting the idea and soliciting solutions from staff and experts to devise a best practice
guideline.
I will reach out to the Manager of Nurse Educator to discuss creating a training
program for the staff nurses and nurse experts; so that all staff that will be involved have the
proper training to use the new process that was decided upon.
Collaboration and outcomes
expectations will then be set with the identified nurse experts. Once all training has been
developed and provided, implementation can begin.
E1. Leadership Best Practices
Leadership best practices that improve employee engagement include creating and
communicating an organizational mission and goals that are clear to all staff.
Highly engaged
employees are committed to their organization and invested in its success. They are eager to
share ideas, promote their system as a great place to work (great for recruiting), and they give
full effort to their jobs every day.
With everyone from top to bottom having shared goals it can
unify the staff and raise their level of participation and engagement as a result
.

Give employees a voice by finding out what’s working and what they are thinking,
whether it is via surveys, Facebook, Twitter, Email, Staff meetings;
then find ways to reproduce
and encompass these ideas throughout the organization. Empower people to share stories,
exchange ideas, and discuss best practices to achieve the vison, goals and values; then monitor
progress. Working with employees in adjusting job descriptions or processes so they have a say
in their work will enhance employee engagement, productivity, retention, and profitability.
Formal rewards and recognition programs should be in place to measure results express
appreciation Healthcare systems with highly engaged workforces hold managers at all levels
accountable not only for their team’s engagement, but also for how that engagement affects the
team’s overall performance by making it part of performance evaluation criteria. It helps all
employees to understand the why it is important, but also to have that carrot at the end of the
stick when a job is well done. By managers monitoring metrics, it holds the employee
accountable and again increases engagement.
