Alcatel-Lucent Service Router and Ethernet Service Switch V I D E O I N T E G R A T E D S E R V I C E A D A P T E R | R E L E A S E 7 The Alcatel-Lucent Video Integrated Service Adapter (Video-ISA) embraces application enablement by extending the service depth and functionality of the 7450 ESS and 7750 SR to include advanced IPTV video applications to dramatically improve the Quality of Experience (QoE) of IPTV service offerings in a cost-optimized and scal- able manner. In addition, the Video-ISA allows service providers to unlock advertising revenue by seamlessly inserting ads into IPTV linear TV streams. Overview of hardware Integrated Service Adapters (ISAs) extend the level of intelligence of the industry-leading Alcatel-Lucent 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS) and 7750 Service Router (SR) platforms by virtualizing advanced service capabili- ties into a single, unified IP/MPLS and/ or Carrier Ethernet service edge. These adapters provide purpose-built, extended functionality to the 7450 ESS and the 7750 SR with capabilities typically found in costly, external, dedicated network attached servers. The Alcatel-Lucent Video-ISA is a half-slot, hot-swappable adapter that inserts into a standard Input/Output Module to provide advanced IPTV quality enhancements or linear TV ad insertion capabilities. As a virtualized network element, the Video-ISA’s services are available to all ports, across all assigned subscribers for all services within the 7450 ESS and the 7750 SR. Linear TV multicast traffic is replicated into the ISA via the backplane and fabric, so no external connections are required. Content from each of the replicated multicast channels is dynamically cached into an on-board video cache for use in delivering advanced linear TV quality enhance- ments or linear ad insertion capabilities.
