Purchase would be divided into two territories, Kanasa and Nebraska. Each of the territories would decide the issue of slavery through popular sovereignty. Thisact would remove the Missouri Compromise's restriction on slavery north of the 36 degree 30 degree line. During the 1855 elections for the Kansas territorial legislature, pro slavery men from Missouri crossed the border from Missouri, voted in Kansas, and then returned home. The territory legislature had a huge pro-slavery majority, and passed a series of strict pro-slavery laws. One law made it a crime to questions anyones right to hold slaves, and another one said that anyone caught helping a fugitive slave could be punished by death. This made people gain a strong bias over the topic of territories and people started
crossing borders and taking actions, which shows how it was important to the beginning of The Civil War.In general, The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, Bleeding Kansas and John Brown 1856, and Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854 were important events that lead up to The Civil War. Although some of these Act and people bought what they were doing was right, they were actually starting The Civil War. To sum it up, The Civil War was started by people taking action to their strong opinions.
