professional development agency. Conference attendance tripled and RIEEA gained access to a new
audience. The partnership continues and Childspan has committed 2009 to working with its members to
get kids outdoors. Also in 2008, RIEEA sponsored an evening with Richard Louv as part of our effort to
garner public support for an ELP in Rhode Island. Over 400 people attended and were engaged in
considering the importance of children in nature.
RIEEA has been working with the New England Environmental Education Alliance to coordinate ELP
efforts with the other New England states. Four of these states (RI, VT, NH & ME) share Grade Span
Expectations and assessments (NECAP), so the goal is to have an aspect of the ELP that is common to all
six states.
