regarding how they are performing. With that information they can utilize tools to improve care that is administered. Too often, the quality of care received in the United States is substandard, patients receive the proper diagnosis and care only about 55% of the time (Measuring health care quality, 2004). Measurement is also beneficial, because it prevents overuse, underuse, and misuse of resources and guarantees safety of patients. When healthcare organizations fail to meet certain standards healthcare providers will be held accountable for ensuring care. Assessment The second aspect under Quality Management Activities is assessment. Assessment is the use of performance information to determine whether an acceptable level of quality has been
CRITICAL ASSIGNMENT 6 achieved (Spath, 2018). Assessment is very effective in achieving healthcare quality management, because it is the first action that will be taken to identify the patient’s health issue. Assessment helps healthcare organizations to determine the specific medical needs that will satisfy the patient. After the health issue has been identified a plan of action will be implemented by the healthcare system. This has a big effect on healthcare quality management, because it makes sure that patients’ expectations are met. When a patient has expectations that are not met this will influence an organization, because their needs were not met regarding the service they received. For example, a patient was admitted into the hospital, because she was having seizures. After being admitted into the hospital she was not attended to for about an hour, and there was nobody checking up in the patient to make sure that she was ok. Despite the patient receiving treatment; her expectations were not fulfilled regarding feeling she was important. If there were people constantly checking up on the patient to make sure her needs were met this would’ve made her feel that she was a priority. Assessment is a useful tool that healthcare organizations can utilize to make sure that patients’ expectations are being met, and if they are not being met then they can use improvement to adjust their assessment. Improvement The third aspect under Quality Management Activities is improvement. Improvement is planning and making changes to current practices to achieve better performance (Spath, 2018). Improvement is important regarding healthcare quality management, because healthcare organizations are interested in finding ways to improve performance. This aspect effects healthcare quality management, because hospitals are constantly trying to find ways in which they can improve patient’s lives by making sure the quality of service the hospital supplies its patients can be enough to care for them. I believe this aspect has a big effect on healthcare
CRITICAL ASSIGNMENT 7 quality management, because patients are the center of attention regarding creating improvement measures. Healthcare organizations aims to improve areas of their organization so that the hospital will run efficiently while the patient enjoys the benefits from the organization. Through
