DDOT is the only agency in the District responsible for the management and building of transportation infrastructure. One responsibility is to procure and provide contract management primarily on construction projects. A strong focus on the direction of the organization as guided by leadership is imperative to accomplish completion of the volume of complex projects performed each year. Strategic planning is imperative for inner-city public transportation particularly in major metropolitan regions because it allows high occupancy vehicles to move a large portion of the population across various vital residential and commercial areas. Basically, the mobility of the public at large is directly influenced by the level of development and efficiency of the transit system provided by the local authorities. It is required to adhere to District and federal requirements, policies, and procedures. These policies and procedures create reassurance that commercial contract uniformity is followed. In order to stay competitive, the DDOT must compete projects utilizing the best use of itsfinancial resources and time. This strategic planning is done to benefit the District residents, visitors, and public at large.
