A lawyer can do a  special appearance  where you respond but it prevents a default  judgment and is no formal defense If you can prove any of these then it beats due process clause and you have grounds  for long arm statute Knowles vs. Modglin Case Truck driver from Alabama died in California and his family hired a funeral director and  doctor in California to do an autopsy and then ship driver home The undertaker ripped family off and didn’t do a good job taking care of the body Family filed lawsuit against undertaker and doctor in California Lower court initially dismissed case because they didn’t have personal jurisdiction for  California people Here they added another minimum contact clause Doctor didn’t do any harm but undertaker did If family had really wanted to sue doctor you always have option of going to California  and filing a lawsuit Jury Selection Almost always jury decides on case 12 people selected at random from a specific county If you get selected then you have to look at list of exemptions
