Title NEA-Gun Violence is a Safety Issue Not an Infringement on our Rights. Abstract Dave Arnold was a janitor at a school and gives us an insight as to how he thinks that gun violence starts with the schools due to kids being bullied etc... There's a need for more rules and schools need psychologists and more counselors to help students dealing with mental problems. Stance Pro gun control Thesis Increased legislation with gun control the need for background checks would probably reduce gun violence as well as schools getting psychologists etc.. to help the kids of tomorrow live in a less violent world. Issues Gun Violence and the human psyche. The problem is that bullying and mental illness can start in schools which could lead to violent behavior in students that could be carried possibly to adulthood. Increased legislation could possibly help the problem. Approach Yes the author uses Logic to persuade. “ Whenever a firearm purchase is made, they are then subjected to a background check by the Illinois state police. They must then go through a mandatory waiting period: 24 hours for a rifle or shotgun, three days for a handgun. No one under age 18 can purchase a firearm or ammunition and no one under 21 can purchase a handgun. Anyone underage can only use a firearm while under the direct supervision of an adult who has a FOID card.” Conclusion Increased legislation would hopefully reduce gun violence My Conclusion What do you think about the claims or information presented in the article? Explain.
I think Arnold makes a good claim and increased legislation could possibly prevent gun violence. Also the amount of bullying in schools is unacceptable and mentally ill students use those feelings as a drive which can lead to violence. Quote “Every gun owner in Illinois must file for and carry with them a Firearm Owners Identification card (FOID). In Illinois, residents must have the card with them when they have a firearm in their possession and when they purchase a firearm or ammunition” (Arnold 6) “Whenever a firearm purchase is made, they are then subjected to a background check by the Illinois state police.
