Siebel Business Process Framework: Workflow Guide Version 8.1, Rev A Examples of Using a Business Service with a Workflow Process Example of Externalizing Properties when Using a Business Service 316 Example of Externalizing Properties when Using a Business Service This topic gives one example of how to externalize properties when using a business service. You might use this technique differently, depending on your business model. This topic includes the following topics: Overview of Externalizing Properties on page 316 Benefits of Using the Externalizing Properties Technique on page 317 Input Arguments of the EAI Business Service on page 317 Example of an XML Hierarchy on page 318 Example of an eScript on page 319 Maintaining the XML File on page 321 The purpose of this example is to provide a technique to externalize properties for Siebel Workflow so that a workflow process that uses a business service that interacts with an external system does not require a repository change when migrating a Siebel instance between development, test, and production environments. Overview of Externalizing Properties A workflow process that uses a business service that requires interaction with an external system must be changed when the repository is migrated between development, test, and production environments. An example of this situation is EAI HTTP Transport business service, which requires the URL of the external system for the HTTPRequestURLTemplate input argument. The URL for the workflow that uses the EAI HTTP Transport business service points to the external URL for an integrated test system in the testing instance, and points to the URL for a production external system in the production instance. Consider the following: 1 The technique that is used in this example stores, in a file, the input arguments of a business service that are used in a workflow process. 2 A script on the Service_PreInvokeMethod event of the business service step reads, from the file, the values of these substitutable input arguments of the business service that are used in the workflow process. 3 The script can set the Input Argument of the business service using values read from the file. This technique results in the following: The file that resides on an instance of the production server contains values for the external system that is used for production The file that resides on an instance for the development and test server contains the values for
