Salvation, Afterlife and Key Idea: During the Brahamanic Period of history of Hinduism, priests were more important than gods, and their salvation was through the sacrifices made by the priests. Later on, the Hindu people began believing that salvation was reached through the devotion of gods, idols, rivers and mountains. Their religion continues to be very focused around the basis of nature and that worshipping these things gives them access to the salvation of their gods. Hinduism has somewhat been influenced by Christians beliefs (Lemuel). The afterlife of Hinduism is somewhat complicated to comprehend upon hearing. They believe that souls are reborn (called “samsara”) into a new individual once they are deceased. The cycle of reliving a life again and again is over when a soul realizes its true nature, indistinguishable from the absolute godhead, which Hindus call Brahman. Their idea of heaven and hell, is split into fourteen different realms, six above and seven below, in which our realm is in the middle. They claim that their souls leave the lower realms when they have learned the lessons they needed to learn (Deziel). Compare and Contrast to Christianity: Christianity and Hinduism are vastly different religions with very disagreeing beliefs to how to reach heaven and our plan of salvation. We as Christians believe that one God created earth and rules over the earth. Hindu’s believe in a supreme god, Brahman,
