- Even before the colonies had committed to independence, they faced the likelihood of serious military conflict. How did they mobilize for war? In your answer, discuss specific challenges they faced, noting the unintended consequences of their solution. They struggled with money for the war the most. France had the best deals on guns and that is where they bought most of theirs. They also borrowed money from other countries. This, however, put them in trouble by having a ton of war debt. Because they were seeking stability, they chose George Washington to be the Commander in Chief. They also tried printing great amount of money to pay for the war, but that only lead to inflation. Congress also tried to sell bonds to raise money for the war. That failed because not many people could afford them or there were better investments to be made. Chapter 8 –Building a Republic (select two) - Why did Antifederalists oppose the constitution? The Antifederalists did not agree with the Constitution for a few reasons. One being that in your House of Representatives, it wasn’t uncommon that one member would represent roughly 30,000 people. This made them feel uneasy about actually being heard as the people. They also did not want the representatives to be all elites. This was because they felt the elites could not relate or really understand what the middle and lower class wanted or needed.
