P E.B White’s purpose is to make the audience feel enjoyment and happiness through family traditions. Another possible purpose for White may have been to open the eyes of the audience, that time may seem like it is paused, but in reality it is going by faster than any person would really like it to. White refers to how the lake had never changed, and how it seems like time has paused, but also realized that him taking his son there was different because over time little things had changed that were noticeable to him. This makes him see that time is going faster than he thought, and he returned to reality. S The speaker, E.B White, is a lead American essayist. Showing that a personal narrative is not something people would expect of him. White was pushed to write this because he saw a relapse of his own childhood memories, a desire to relive and show his son those memories. White wanted to reflect it to other families who didn’t have the opportunity to have traditions he himself had.

T E.B White manipulated his tone through a relaxing and calming voice. White was also very specific, describing everything exceptionally well. White used this tone to slow down time, creating a point where “ time was pausing” in his words. On the contrary, he also describes the differences from when he went as a child to taking his own child, almost pulling that effect away and back to the reality of the situation. He also makes several parallels to his father and him as a father, showing how time won’t change traditions. “On Keeping a Notebook” Joan Didion S This piece of writing is based upon the importance of keeping a notebook you yourself personally can remember what, where, and why something had happened.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
