Honestly, when first thinking about the service versus manufacturing supply chain I would have expected that the service industry would be more difficult to coordinate. This was simply because of the more "human" component necessary in a service industry. There seems to be a greater likelihood of variability and unpredictability in what the consumers are requesting. For this reason in particular, I assumed coordination would be difficult for management since the variance is inevitable. However, when looking specifically at the supply chain, the fact that the service industry would require less supplies and have few steps clearly makes it the easier to coordinate. Thank you for putting this together to clarify the topic. Ericka Hunter Thread: Dempsey Question #1 Week 8 Post: Dempsey Question #1 Week 8 Author: Posted Date: February 6, 2016 2:27 PM Status: Published 1) Define supplychain management. List and discuss the objectives of supply chain management. From the Internet find a Supply Chain Management organization. Provide its web site address and discuss the services it provides. SupplyChain Management is the process of managing each step of the work flow from start to finish. It is the ability to ensure a smooth flow of materials, resources, or goods from one process to the next to ensure that the endtoend process is completed in the most efficient and effective manner. This could include making sure inventory is available and that each process has minimal down time. The book summarizes it as the synchronization of a firm’s processes with those of its suppliers and customers to match the flow of materials, services, and information with demand (Krajewski). Wikipedia also adds that it is the “design, planning, execution, control, and monitoring of supply chain activities” (Wikipedia). William Dempsey

This is a large consulting firm that specialized in operational efficiencies. They offer consulting to help companies focus on and obtain lean systems. One service they provide is in the area of Lean Supply Chains. They help companies gain competitive advantage with the knowledge, commitment, strategic planning, collaboration, and a roadmap for success to help those companies make their supply chain as efficient as possible.
