help of the manager as well. Management should not just be an individual delegating, they should be willing to get their hands a little dirty and lead by example. I believe that a good manager is made when they are also a good leader. While reading the textbook I found a quote that I felt really hit this out of the park. Chester Bernard (1886-1961) states “A manager has subordinates-a leader has followers” (p. 25). This really clarifies things if you want to be a good manager you first must learn how to become a good leader. In my personal experiences I have experienced a manager that was not willing to be a leader as well as having a manager that was a great leader. I will say it was much easier and definitely much more fun to work with a manager that was a great leader. This manager not only always had my back, but would also show me how to simplify things and make things more efficient in the work I was doing. This expansion on management is much more in depth that the textbook definition. 225 words Permalink | Show parent | Reply Re: Learning Guide Unit 1 by Maryflora Odhiambo - Monday, 10 September 2018, 7:45 AM Hi,Rebecca, I like how you have elaborated further on the meaning of management. However I believe that part of this question also wanted you to expound on qualities of a good manager which I think you did not quite elaborate on them clearly.Good job but a slight oversight on that part.Keep up the good job 58 words Permalink | Show parent | Reply Re: Learning Guide Unit 1 by Ali Campos - Monday, 10 September 2018, 5:17 PM Rebecca,

Very well said! To lead by example sets a standard for any job done. It demonstrates the problem solving skill required to earn the trust and respect of their co-workers, and like you said, a manager who is also a good leader made work fun. I think this kind of approach is important in making sure that nobody feels like just a number, slogging through day in and day out. 71 words Permalink | Show parent | Reply Re: Learning Guide Unit 1 by Maryflora Odhiambo - Monday, 10 September 2018, 6:08 AM Management as the art of getting things done through the efforts of other people-In my own words I would say that it sis a process of getting things done since it involves a lot of processes for instance;(P O L C)-Planning,Organizing,Leadership and Control, all these factors are involved in the process of management as proven by Henry Fayol(Principles of Management 1845) Characteristics of a good management process; This requires a good manager first to be able to execute good management process.A good manager should provide resources for the employees in order for them to achieve organizational goals hence he/she should be able to control how the resources are to be shared among-st the employees; A good management process require a manager to be a good listener in order to come to a consensus concerning a certain issue hence portray good leadership skills. No team can work without listening to each other and complementing each others work.Good management

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
