Globalization means that that food must be sold at competitive prices, and this for developing countries this can be hard and might take a while. America still invest only modestly in research that will push agriculture toward sustainability If we invest in developing agricultural systems for tropical and semitropical regions that would raise productivity there in a sustainable way it would help narrow down the gap between rich and poor. When introducing technology, we must check the precautions and outcomes of these things, whether it will affect many lives or ruin the ecosystem. Article #1 : “Agricultural Ethics: Chrispeels and Mandoli” Q & A 1 Define in detail what is meant by the following terms and what the advantages or disadvantages of each might be: Production agriculture -Production agriculture is the practice of supplying abundant amount of food that is safe and nutritious at the lowest price possible. And to be able to achieve this, farmers must constantly use technologies that are introduced to them to help enhance production to

feed the growing population. The advantage would be that it would solve the problem of food demand, however, technologies such as pest control practices and genetic engineering of crops that are used to produce food might harm the ecosystem and can put many lives in danger. Sustainable agriculture -Sustainable Agriculture is about taking care and preserving the land. It also thinks about the health of the farm workers, the preservation of the small biota that are rich in biodiversity and are interspersed with fields, the value of rural communities. The advantage of sustainable agriculture is that the food will be much safer to eat. Since sustainable agriculture protects the land, we can preserve it to the future generation hence our kids. It helps with the environmental issues we have today such as using chemicals that affects the greenhouse gases. The disadvantage would be that it might not meet the food demand. The population is growing so quick that food production must keep up with it. Subsistence agriculture -Subsistence agriculture is the practice of farming where farmers only focus on feeding themselves and their family. It is self-sufficient. The advantage would be that they will always have enough food for themselves while preserving the land at the same time. The disadvantage would be that they might not be able to have enough money to pay for other expenses such as school supplies for their children etc. 2 Explain: Agricultural subsides -Agricultural subsidy is government money use to pay farmers to supply agricultural commodities. Commodities such as corn, beans, milk, grains, cotton etc. The pro would be government helping the farmer’s family and feeding the U.S population. The cons

would be that the government influences the production of crop. The people who are hurt are the third world counties. Farmers in the third world countries are forced to
