You need to record the conversation that takes between the educator and the child, the child’s reactions and any emerging skills you see him demonstrate and demonstrate inclusive assessment practices. For this activity we will call the child “Michael” and the educator “Kate”. Student Guide Ensure your methods and tools used to gather the information consider assessment principals: Principal 1 – use positive, non-biased language Principal 2 – use specific and descriptive language Principal 3 – Observations are objective, interpretations are objective You will need to complete the following records: a. Running record (template attached) b. Anecdotal record (template attached) c. Photo Narrative (template attached and photo’s for you will be provided by your trainer) d. Developmental checklist (your trainer will provide you with page 5 from the resource) Assessor note: This video can be played multiple times to all the student’s to observe and make the appropriate notes to complete the observation samples. Answer/s provided in the marking guide may not be exactly the same – students may provide similar or alternative answer to each of these questions. 1.2 Monitor children’s learning and development Instructions to the students This activity will allow you to demonstrate your ability to monitor children’s learning and development. Using the recording methods in the previous activity 1.1, you will complete the following tasks. a. Complete the interpretations where requested on your observation records. b. Identify the child’s strengths, interests, relationships and learning in conjunction with the approved framework’s learning outcomes. c. Identify children who may need additional support in order to achieve particular outcomes. d. Complete a summative assessment of what the child has learnt over this short observation. e. Discuss how you would collaborate with the family and your colleagues to support the child’s learning.
