childhood, ASD and VSD symptoms can develop gradually into adulthood. According toSetty et al. (2017), the most common symptoms of ASD and VSD in adults include dyspnea, palpitations, and heart failure. Physicians determine the best treatment plan for ASD or VSD by taking into accountthe child’s age, medical history, parents opinions, the severity of the condition and the child’stolerance for specific medications (Setty et al., 2017). Importantly, some ASD and VSDspontaneously close as the child grow. However, if the hole does not close, it has to be closedthrough heart surgery. Some of the medications prescribed for ASD and VSD includeDigoxin (strengthens the heart muscles) and Diuretics. Finally, ASD and VSD in adults aretreated through surgery to close the holes (Setty et al., 2017). References
