iSCSI SANs give business a different way of building Storage Area Networks (SAN). Condensing storage into a SAN creates storage management and scaling benefits for datacenters. iSCSI support in Windows Server 2012 R2 allows the connection of servers to an iSCSI SAN simple and affordable. Fibre Channel SANs provide good performance and security. Fibre Channel SANs are a more expensive option than iSCSI. An experienced administrator would also be needed to implement a Fibre Channel SAN. The Fibre Channel feature allows you to connect to Fibre Channel storage from within a virtual machine. This also allows you to use an existing Fibre Channel investment to support virtualized workloads. Support for Fibre Channel in Hyper-V guests also includes support for many related features, such as virtual SANs, live migration, and MPIO.
