It’s up to you though. You need a minimum of 6 nominations in the “Personal Choice” category, but we will allow you to have up to 10. Past students who have completed the exercise often mention wishing they would have solicited more raters. Note that you will be required to have at least 4 completed “Personal Choice” surveys. You need to nominate more than that to buffer against a less than 100% response rate. If you don’t have 4 ratings completed for you by the deadline, you will lose points on your overall project grade. If you have fewer than 3 raters, you will not be able to receive a full report (due to jeopardizing the anonymity of raters). Additionally, the more raters you have (as long as they are from people who have seen you in action a significant amount), the more powerful patterns in results may be. Once you have finalized your list, you will need to give these people advance warning to expect an e-mail about providing feedback for you for a management course project on leadership. The e-mail will look like it is coming from Lisa Green, the Gabelli undergraduate core curriculum manager, but it will actually be sent from the system’s e-mail address ( [email protected] ) . Please explicitly ask the people you choose if they are willing and able to do this for you (i.e., live, by phone or by your own personal e- mail or other communication), rather than have them find out about this via an e-mail from us. In terms of time commitment, please advise potential raters that the online survey takes most people about 12-15 minutes to complete. They will need to do this sometime within a few weeks (by Tuesday, February 24 at the latest). They can do the survey in chunks if they’d like rather than all at once – the system will save their places and previous responses as long as they are using the same browser from the same computer. Please ask your raters to be as candid as possible. You can assure your raters that their individual ratings will not be revealed to you —that is, their individual ratings will be confidential. Your report will contain only aggregated data across raters and anonymous comments. Moreover, your feedback report as a whole will also be kept confidential. If you are nervous about explicitly asking others for help with this, you’re not alone. It’s okay. In fact, this experience of choosing and asking raters to provide feedback is a great learning opportunity in its 2
own right for many students, for this very reason. Despite common initial fears, most students end up discovering that others are happy to help and often actually intrigued about the project and flattered at being given the opportunity to help shape your development. Step 3: Log back into and click on the “Invite Others to Evaluate You” tab or the link to “Nominate at least 6 people to evaluate you” to submit your rater nominations. Via this tab, you will need to type in each rater’s first and last name (please remember to capitalize!) and e-mail address.
You've reached the end of your free preview.
