size of of a pencil eraser, the hummingbird’s heart is most of the hummingbird. Such a small
heart beats ten times per second which is one of the fastest heartbeats any animal has in the
world. Doyle keeps on talking about hummingbirds giving us more details about what they are
capable of with their tiny but fast beating hearts. He states “Each one visits a thousand flowers a
day. They can dive at sixty miles per hour. They can fly backwards. They can fly more than five
hundred miles without pausing to rest.(Doyle, P2). These hummingbirds can do so much with
their bodies and their tiny little hearts it’s amazing. They are capable of so much with their
bodies which many others aren’t and that’s why they’re beautiful. This is their daily life, flying
and finding food, all the while those hearts beating at ten times per second. Now he talks about
the biggest heart in the world which is the blue whale’s heart. Doyle states “
The biggest heart in
the world is inside the blue whale. It weighs more than seven tons. It’s as big as a room. It
is
a
room, with four chambers. A child could walk around it, head high, bending only to step through
the valves.”(Doyle, P3).
