Quizzes:There will be seven quizzes that will be taken online via the Canvas Web site. Each quiz willhave 25 multiple choice questions. Once you open the quiz link you will have 15 minutes to submit thequiz. Your lowest quiz score will be dropped. To take a quiz select the quiz link; then select “Take theQuiz”; then select “Start Attempt”. A timer will appear in the top right corner of the screen that
indicates how much time you have left to finish the quiz. All the questions will be within the samewindow so you will need to scroll down as you answer the questions. When you have finished the quiz, click on the “Submit Quiz” button at the bottom right corner of the screen. If you do not submit the quizwithin 15 minutes, the quiz will automatically be submitted at the 15-minute mark and all unfinishedquestions will be marked wrong. The Proctorio program that monitors student behavior during quizzesrequires students to use Google Chrome as their browser when taking the quiz.Examinations: There will be four exams this semester, with each exam covering 3-4 chapters. Most ofthe exam questions will be multiple choice. However, there will also be some short answer questions. Ifanyone misses an exam I will give them a score equal to 20 points lower than their lowest other examscore. The Proctorio program that monitors student behavior during exams requires students to useGoogle Chrome as their browser when taking the exam.Quiz and Exam time limits: The time limits on the quizzes and exams are set so that students canaverage 35 seconds for each multiple choice question. Because it takes most students 15-20 seconds toread a one sentence question and four multiple choice answers, students should have plenty of time tocomfortably answer all the questions without having to rush. Giving more time would tempt somestudents to look up the correct answers--and the quizzes and exams are NOT intended to be open book.Proctorio: Online courses can tempt some students to cheat. To reduce that temptation, I am usingProctorio for the quizzes and exams in this course. Proctorio is an application built into Canvas thatmonitors student behavior while taking the exam. If a student has a computer with a built-in microphoneand webcam it records video and audio of the student for the instructor to review. If a student does nothave a webcam or microphone Proctorio still has functionality that detects and reports suspiciousactivity. If a student is caught cheating he/she will be given a zero for that quiz/exam. A zero on a quizor exam will significantly impact your overall course grade.Proctorio only works with the Chrome browser and requires a Chrome extension to be installed on yourcomputer. Thus, one of your first assignments is to take a short, three question quiz that requires you toinstall the Proctorio Chrome extension. The extension only has to be installed once, so you will nothave to install it on future quizzes and exams. If you have a problem installing the Chromeextension or have any other problems with Proctorio, their 24x7 phone number is 1-866-948-9087.
