Quizzes: There will be seven quizzes that will be taken online via the Canvas Web site. Each quiz will have 25 multiple choice questions. Once you open the quiz link you will have 15 minutes to submit the quiz. Your lowest quiz score will be dropped. To take a quiz select the quiz link; then select “Take the Quiz”; then select “Start Attempt”. A timer will appear in the top right corner of the screen that

indicates how much time you have left to finish the quiz. All the questions will be within the same window so you will need to scroll down as you answer the questions. When you have finished the quiz, click on the “Submit Quiz” button at the bottom right corner of the screen. If you do not submit the quiz within 15 minutes, the quiz will automatically be submitted at the 15-minute mark and all unfinished questions will be marked wrong. The Proctorio program that monitors student behavior during quizzes requires students to use Google Chrome as their browser when taking the quiz. Examinations: There will be four exams this semester, with each exam covering 3-4 chapters. Most of the exam questions will be multiple choice. However, there will also be some short answer questions. If anyone misses an exam I will give them a score equal to 20 points lower than their lowest other exam score. The Proctorio program that monitors student behavior during exams requires students to use Google Chrome as their browser when taking the exam. Quiz and Exam time limits: The time limits on the quizzes and exams are set so that students can average 35 seconds for each multiple choice question. Because it takes most students 15-20 seconds to read a one sentence question and four multiple choice answers, students should have plenty of time to comfortably answer all the questions without having to rush. Giving more time would tempt some students to look up the correct answers--and the quizzes and exams are NOT intended to be open book. Proctorio: Online courses can tempt some students to cheat. To reduce that temptation, I am using Proctorio for the quizzes and exams in this course. Proctorio is an application built into Canvas that monitors student behavior while taking the exam. If a student has a computer with a built-in microphone and webcam it records video and audio of the student for the instructor to review. If a student does not have a webcam or microphone Proctorio still has functionality that detects and reports suspicious activity. If a student is caught cheating he/she will be given a zero for that quiz/exam. A zero on a quiz or exam will significantly impact your overall course grade. Proctorio only works with the Chrome browser and requires a Chrome extension to be installed on your computer. Thus, one of your first assignments is to take a short, three question quiz that requires you to install the Proctorio Chrome extension. The extension only has to be installed once, so you will not have to install it on future quizzes and exams. If you have a problem installing the Chrome extension or have any other problems with Proctorio, their 24x7 phone number is 1-866-948-9087.
