The department will provide reimbursement as a reward for successfully becoming ACM certified. The department will also reward employees who already hold the ACM certification by providing reimbursement for their renewal as well. This promotes employee engagement as it provides an opportunity for professional growth and shows the organizations commitment in professional development. A Magnet organization encourages employees to seek a national certification in their area of specialty. The national certification program demonstrates the employee’s knowledge, skill, attitude, and commitment toward the area of specialty chosen. The organization will have improved retention rates of talented and skilled staff that are engaged in a positive work environment, find value in their work, and promote quality of care to improve patient outcomes. Finally the leader will evaluate the implementation of this plan by observing increased employee satisfaction scores and there will be an increase in the number of case manager certified. Leadership Best Leadership is the backbone of employee engagement and teamwork within a unit or department. Leaders should inspire their staff. Leaders that are visible, ready, and willing to lend a hand gain respect from their employees. Shows the leader has knowledge and an understanding of what their employees do everyday. Creating an environment that allows for autonomy and innovation is showing a level of trust and respect between the leader and their

Autonomy increases the nurses confidence in their decision making skills, holds them accountable to seeking knowledge and follow policy and procedure, which increases productivity and promotes professional development. The practice of accountability, open lines of communication, and promoting teamwork will directly impact employee engagement. Leaders that cultivate an environment in which staff feel comfortable asking questions and reporting mistakes without fear of judgement will encourage the team to work together to improve process and creates a culture of safety. A culture of safety is needed to improve quality, patient satisfaction, and lower cost of care.
