“The United States is the only developed nation that does not yet guarantee all of its citizen’s access to health care through a system of Universal health coverage (Shi & Stevens, 2010).” The U.S. is ranked number 37 in the world for health system performance and 72 for overall health outcome performance (Shi & Stevens, 2010). If we are among the richest nations in the world why do we rank so horribly in our health care system? This is because the people with health care are the ones who are able to afford it. The individuals who can’t are left uninsured and in the position of not receiving the health care they need in life threatening situations. There are over 50 million people in the U.S. who are without health insurance (Individual liberty vs. Common Good BB). This goes back to the principles of social justice. The people who can afford to pay for the insurance get the care they need. The people who do not get that same opportunity because they lack the funds are left uninsured. Finally, the United States spends more money on health care than any other nation but still has
