Manually modifying a routing table can cause messages

This preview shows page 1 - 2 out of 2 pages.

5.Manually modifying a routing table can cause messages to get stuck hopping between a limited number of routers. What is this problem called? 6. Give three examples of routing metrics used by routers to determine the best of various available routing paths. Three examples are Hop Count, Latency, and Routing Cost. 1

Rodgene Santos CIS 1180 – NET01 7.List three interior gateway protocols (IGPs). 8.Compare the three categories of routers. 9.What is the difference between static and dynamic routing? 10. Describe the OSPF routing protocol. Open Shortest Path First is an interior gateway protocol and a link-state routing protocol used on interior or border routers. It was first presented as an improvement to RIP and can coexist with RIP or RIPv2 on networks. Unlike, RIP, OSPF imposes no hop limits on a path of transmission. OSPF also uses more complex algorithms when determining the best path than what RIP uses. However, OSPF requires more memory and CPU power than RIP, but it keeps bandwidth in a network to a minimum and provides faster convergence time. 2
