5. Outputs of Design According to McDonald, M. (2017). product-service system is regarded as an attractive business concept, in which it creates high added value. This is done by integrating the provisions of products/services. As both the product and service are included in the design object, the Product-service system design process is increasingly more complicated. Therefore, the designers are required to organise reliably what should be accomplished during the design process. When investigating the service/product provided by McDonalds, it is best to look at their Happy meal which is targeted at children. 5.1 Concept When looking at the McDonalds happy meal, a lot of innovation has had to take place. This is because the original contents of a happy meal were limited and the packaging very plain. (Analysis of McDonald's, 2018) suggested that it wasn’t until sales of the happy meal had started to decrease that McDonalds decided to innovate. This started by listening to customers on a day-to-day basis in particular children, as well as using ideas from the staff. In which after collecting all the concepts the options were reduced until a final design was reached. In which McDonalds then decided to increase the variety for the happy meal, by including a choice of different beverages as well as including toys in the happy meals and making the packaging more child friendly. 5.2 Package When looking at the packaging process of McDonald the product (happy meal) not only needs to be manufactured accurately, it also needs to be delivered to the end customer within a reasonable time in optimal condition. Packaging is key for McDonalds or any other company as it represents the brand as well as ensures to customers that the product provided is to a high standard. 5.3 Process The design of the process is very important, as it signifies the level the customer service of the Business. This could include the time taken to order food from McDonalds to the preparation time/waiting time of the customer, to the time of consumption. When looking at the processing strategy of McDonalds it can be seen that they run smoothly, and that there is perfect communication between staff and customers. But with the increase in customers recently, the duration time before collection has increased, therefore suggesting that McDonalds should look into other process strategies. This could 6 | P a g e

include hiring more staff to meet the demands of consumers or reducing the stages of preparations. 6. Capacity Planning According to (Root, 2018) capacity planning is “ the ability of a given system to produce output within the specific time period.” The aim of the capacity planner is to plan as well as possible so that when a new capacity is added, its just in time to meet the demand, and not too early that resources go unused for a long duration.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
