One reason a laboring woman might need a C section is a prolapsed umbilical cord. this is when a loop of umbilical cord slips through your cervix ahead of your baby. Another reason for a C section is placenta previa. This is when the placenta covers the opening of your cervix

You are her nurse in the pre-op area and are getting her ready for the operating room. She asks you to: describe briefly what will happen in the OR. At the onset of the C section The uterine incision will be made usually horizontally across the lower part of the uterus (low transverse incision). The baby will be delivered through the incision. The doctor will clear the baby's mouth and nose of fluids, then clamp and cut the umbilical cord. The placenta will be removed from the uterus, and the incisions will be closed with sutures. If you have regional anesthesia, you'll be able to hear and see the baby right after delivery. She asks you about her recovery after the surgery. Describe for her how she will look and feel after surgery when she gets to the Post Partum Unit. She will have an incision but it will be dressed and covered securely. Also, a wedge placed under her hip to tilt her uterus to one side. she will feel some pain but
