9.2 Year mark and final examination/other options
The marks obtained for all four compulsory assignments contribute 100 % towards your final
mark. There is no formal written examination for this module . The combined weighted
averages of your assignment marks must be 50% or higher for you to pass this module.

9.3 Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of taking the words, ideas and thoughts of others and passing them off as
your own. It is a form of theft, which involves some fraudulent academic activities. It is essential
that your assignments reflect your work. Remember that the purpose of an assignment is to
assess whether you understand the work. This cannot be done if you copy information directly
from sources, such as the internet books, magazines and journals. Your assignments should be
written in your words, reflecting your thoughts and ideas. What is meant by “use your words”?
You must formulate sentences on your own; and, in this way, illustrate that you understand the
issues at hand. It does not mean that you must look for synonyms (words that mean the same
as those used by the author). It also does not mean you can “copy and paste” information from
the internet. You need to study and read the relevant section, understand it and then convey the
information in your words. Imagine that you are trying to explain the work to someone who
knows nothing about the subject.
If you do quote someone else’s information in your assignment, remember to cite it in the text
and provide a page number. Always provide a list of the sources that you used to complete
your assignment in the reference section at the end of your document.
