During the great depression and after the presidency of Hoover, the economy headed up, job rates had increased and the people had started to trust the government this was all because of president FDR. There were many things that FDR did to help the United States out of depression, but the fireside chats and Bank holydays were one of the most effective ones of them all. Fireside chats were times during FDRs presidency were he would talk with the public. Fireside chats were broadcast every Sunday night; he spoke of plans such as creating jobs for the unemployed. He gave hope when people needed hope. This was a good way of calming the stress and fear of the people. This helped the economy because throughout the fireside chats when he explained the goal people were more likely to vote for his ideas and get it passed and he created a personal connection between him and the nation. Another reason he helped the nation out of the great depression was because of the bank holydays. Bank holydays were when FDR closed the banks, by closing all the banks, FDR stopped the run on those financial institutions and also gave some comfort to the people who were worried about their bank accounts. After announcing he would close the banks, he told the public that federal examiners would check each and every bank closed. Those that were financially strong would be allowed to reopen. Those that were in bad shape would be closed, and those that needed help would be provided aid from the federal government. It boosted the confidence of the public that the government was doing something to protect their money. By doing this he created the Emergency bank act which said banks were
