Windows Firewall with Advanced Security supports a more granular firewall configuration than can be created using the Windows Firewall applet in Control Panel. For example, it can filter traffic based on parameters such as: Source IP address Destination IP address Port number ICMP protocol Using System Commands 0:00-0:15 In this demonstration, were going to practice using system commands at the command prompt. Now these commands that we're going to look at are not your average end user commands, these are commands are typically only used by system administrators. Opening the Command Prompt 0:16-0:38 Now to begin with we do need to open up a command prompt but most of the commands we're going to use need to be run as administrator so what I'm going to do is come down to my Windows icon and right-click and then select command prompt admin and I do need to elevate privileges of course, click Yes. I'm going to make this window a little bigger so we can see the output of some of these commands we're going to run. Getting Help 0:39-1:45 The first thing I want to point out is the fact that if you're having trouble with a particular command or if you just need to learn how to use a particular command you actually have two different options for getting help at the command line. The first option and the one that I use most is to simply enter the name of the command such as the dir command, the dir command is a command we use to generate a listing of files and folders in a directory we specify and then we enter a forward slash and then a question mark. And then instead of running, what dir does is display its help screen. As you can see here dir displays a list of files and sub directories within a directory and then it shows us the syntax of using that command and all the different options you can use with this command. Now in addition to using the forward slash question mark to view the help for a given command you can use the help command to get help from most Windows commands. You type help space and then the name of the command that you want to get help for. Let's get help for the dir command again. And the same screen is displayed. So with this in mind let's look at some of the administrative commands that you can use at the command prompt. Exit 1:46-2:08 The first command I want to show you is the command used to actually exit out of the command line environment. It's simply the exit command. You have a couple of options for closing the command prompt window, you could come up here and click the X or you can enter the exit command just like that and notice that it goes away. Okay, let's go ahead and open up our elevated command prompt again. Make the window larger once again and the next command that I want to show you is called the expand command, now the expand command is used to expand a compressed file and it's commonly used to retrieve files from the compressed cab files that are distributed on Windows distribution discs.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
