Remember to cite sources as appropriate.Lung disease and diabetes are becoming an ever so widespread concern in my community. From unhealthy food options, sedentary lifestyle, lack of knowledge on tobacco products and effects of electronic cigarettes. The increase in fast food restaurants have become more easily accessible, quick and cheap option for families to choose, with such busy lives a lot of families have not set aside time to make home cooked healthy meals. The advancement in technology has a lot of teens and kids in doors glued to the TV screen or iPad instead of having a more active life style. Another issue that has the community on edge is the increase in electronic cigarettes such as the highly advertised JUUL products. A rise in cases involvingvaping related illnesses has become a concern throughout the United States. Both diabetes and lung disease are linked to high mortality rates and as a community health nurse it is important to find ways to decrease these rates. Diabetes has been on the rise in the United States in the past few years, it has especially been a key issue for the Houston and Katy Texas area. “In the last 20 years, the number of adults diagnosed with diabetes has more than doubled as the American population has aged and become more overweight or obese” (CDC, 2019). Diabetes can lead to multiple complications, and if diagnosed more often than not a person will have multiple comorbidities. The hospital I work at in the Houston area receives multiple patients with hyperglycemia, either because they are unaware the fact that they are diabetic or because lackof knowledge and understanding of what this disease can do to the human body. I have taken care of patients with blood sugars ranging from 300 to 900, a lot of the time the patients have run out of their medication and are unable to afford the costs, and other times patients lack of compliance with diet and medication regimen end them up in the hospital. “Approximately 9.4% of Americans (had diabetes in 2015, in comparison to 11.2% of Texans. In addition, the rate of new diagnoses for diabetes has increased over the past several years and is also greaterin Texas than nationally” (Texas Demographic Center, 2018). Through my observations,
