The opening is about the displacement of identity. There is the enactment of a ritual, of a ceremony. Everything is in order, it has all of the importance of a religious ceremony. The Ending: Joker is exhilarated by survival, but he is displaced. The natural light of the barracks has given way to a building only lit by burning objects. After the chaos of the sniper scene, they are trying to find unity in a shared cultural anthem. “You are as welcome as can be. We play fair and we work hard.” These lyrics from the mickey mouse song provide a sort stabilization in their continuous walking. This film is based on both a news reporting and a short novel. Kubrick takes real situations and heightens them.
